About This Speaker Tape

Sandy B. traces his path from a childhood of isolation and a terrifying view of the Catholic Church to a career as a Marine Corps fighter pilot. He describes the 'transforming experience' of his first few drinks at Yale which acted as a chemical key to unlock a personality he felt was trapped.

This trajectory led to a decade of high-functioning chaos eventually culminating in a fake oxygen emergency to escape a flight he could no longer handle due to withdrawals. After a stint in a 'nut ward' and a 42-year sponsorship with Bill T. Sandy dismantles the idea of the 'false home' we build out of old ideas.

He argues that recovery is the process of smashing these delusions with a sledgehammer to reveal a spiritual reality moving from a self-centered existence to one where he can simply look at a pen or a stranger and feel a sense of 'wow'.
