Why is it that thumpers are always trying to distinguish or separate themselves from their recovery community peers? Individual thumpers do it, thumper groups do it and entire thumper areas do it. Isn’t this condition the classic alcoholic character defect of hiding a bad motive behind a good intention? Is there any right way to do the wrong thing?
“Big Book Thumpers” is a negative labeling of people who work the real AA program. Did you ask the bartender to water down your booze when you were drinking? Why should a recovered alcoholic carry a watered down solution? They are “Big Book Winners” and you resent them, therefore, don’t want to know the true program. They and the book are a threat to your stinking thinking. That being said, there are folks who are overly prideful of the program. If they truly are practicing what they teach, that pride gets tempered, and they grow compassionate for the sick and suffering alcoholic. This is true peace and one must go through the stages of suffering from an inflated ego before they can grow spiritually. Good luck to you. I pray for your Higher Powers will for you!
always having to be right to me it’s an old idea, guess they don’t go by live and let live.
Love Chris R!! Great message. So tired of the chicken shit myself.
I don’t agree with people who spend time on the podium expressing what is “wrong” with AA in their opinion. Share your experience, strength, and hope. Do not share your resentments with the program
i would rather see a sermon a ( big book ) then hear one . the old timers in our area use to caution about getting big shotism aka ego . the saying pride comes before a fall .
Why can’t more AA meetings have a message of hope like this? Guess it’s easier just to say it works if you work it, without sharing our one solution…
Great stuff, listen also to early rcording from Jack B steps 1-6!! He was already worried About the same things and That was in the 70-iets!!
This tape speaks about hope and the great importance of helping the newcomer to learn to stay sober. Very, very good speaker!
What an awesome, passionate speaker carrying a great message! My favorite speaker by far.
Great message – focused on what the illness is and the message of living right!
