The session opens with a few brief raw shares about the insanity of ripping out IVs and fleeing hospitals to keep drinking. The bulk of the tape is a surgical line-by-line study of 'The Doctor's Opinion' in the Big Book. Ali H. leads the group through a process of marking their texts with highlighters and pens transforming the doctor's clinical observations into personal questions. He focuses heavily on the physical allergy and the 'phenomenon of craving,' explaining that for the alcoholic the first drink doesn't satisfy a craving but intensifies it—like eating a hamburger while starving and suddenly wanting ten more. He contrasts 'frothy emotional appeals' like sympathy or threats with the 'depth and weight' of a spiritual awakening. The talk concludes with the promise of a 'psychic change,' moving from a trembling wreck to a man of self-reliance provided the 12 Steps are made a way of life.

very strange last call and it's three o'clock in the morning and i'm thirstier at three o clock in the mornig than when i left thank you brother hannah come on up please hi friends i'm hannah recovering alcoholic so hard to pick just one but uh probably waking up in the hospital after a seizure ripping out my iv and leaving to uh drink some more thanks guys thank you hannah michelle come on up please oh hi guys my name is michelle i'm an alcoholic um similarly you know experiences of just the absolute insanity of coming to out of various occasions and just ripping out ivs or not showing up to interviews just the various times at which i had no choice i no longer had the choices to whether or not i was going to drink absolutely on insanity so yeah thanks thank you michelle so everybody else uh we're gonna get to you in the next round of sharing thank you so much kuna i saw frank just come back in so please co-host them again thank you very good okay so So we're going to continue in the big book. Though we work our solution on the spiritual as well as the altruistic thing, we favor hospitalization for the alcoholic who's very jittery or be far. More often than not, it is imperative that a man's brain be cleared before he's approached as he has then a better chance of understanding and accepting what we have to offer. Notice for that paragraph, it's so self-explanatory. I'm not going to unpack it for the newcomer unless they ask questions, right? So the doctor writes, we're going to jump back in the letter now. The subject presented in this book seems to me to be of paramount importance. Please circle paramount important with it. Paramount importance to those afflicted with alcoholic addiction. I say this after many years experience as medical director of one of the oldest hospitals in the country treating alcoholic and drug addiction. There was, therefore, a sense of real satisfaction when I was asked to contribute a few words on a subject which is covered in such masterly detail in these pages. Please circle. Covered in such masterly details. Dr. Silkworth, this humble, beautiful soul, friend of A.A.'s, put his neck out. I'm talking to the group right now. I won't talk to a newcomer like this. He doesn't need to. His neck out at a time where he was the top leading expert in the States, therefore I would take close to worldwide, right? In one of the oldest hospitals for 30 some years, I think, trying to help hopeless alcoholics and has failed with a lot of them. A humble man. He stuck his neck out professionally for someone of those times to write a letter to say hey i endorse what they're doing nothing scientific about it right he stuck his paramount importance masterly detail okay now i may explain this a little bit to the new person right in these pages we doctors have realized for a long time that some form of moral psychology please circle moral psychology was of urgent importance to alcoholics but its application presented difficulties beyond our conception okay so moral psychology please circle moral psychology now draw a line to the left margin with a little arrow and you're going to turn the big book clockwise 90 degrees so the left margin is now facing you. Left margin is not facing, okay? So you're going to write across long ways. Please write referring to the spirit. No, sorry. Sorry. Rewrite this. Sorry, right? Spiritual experience and awakening. Write that. Spiritual experience and awakening, spiritual experience and awakening. So another way for us to say moral psychology in the terms of this big book and this path is spiritual experience and awakening so this doctor so so so at that time they were trying to do what is called moral psychology right they just as a doctor humble doctor says look was of urgent importance but its application presented difficulties beyond our conception what with our ultra modern standards are a scientific approach to everything grab the yellow highlighter now important we are perhaps not well equipped to apply the powers of good that lie outside our synthetic knowledge highlighting yellow we are perhaps not well equipped to apply the powers of good that lie outside our synthetic knowledge okay so he's saying whatever is going on with these group of men i don't understand it but it seems to be working right so from the yellow now please from the Yellow Highlighter just please put a little arrow a line and an arrow to the right margin now now turn the big book counterclockwise to 90 degrees so the right margin is facing you and please write this referring to the spiritual realm referring to the spiritual round when dr silkworth says not well equipped to apply the powers of good that lie outside our synthetic knowledge he's talking about the spiritual world beyond what we know and what we think we know can't explain it man okay referring to the spiritual realm many years ago one of the leading so if you come back to the big book many years before one of their leading contributors above leading contributors please write bill w small bill w bill wilson one of leading contributors to this book came under our care in this hospital and while here he acquired some ideas which he put in practical action at once later he requests the privilege of being allowed to tell his story to other patients here and with some misgiving we consented the cases we have followed through have been most interesting in fact many of them are amazing the unselfishness of these men as we have come to know them the entire absence of profit motive and their community spirit is indeed inspiring to one has labored long and rarely an alcoholic field i let grab the yellow highlighter They believe in themselves and still more in the power, which pulls chronic alcoholics back from the gates of death. This is the doctor saying this, a scientist saying this. I can't dispute what's in front of me. I can dispute this powerful evidence. These men believe in themself and stillmore in their power which pulls chronics alcoholics from the gate of death There's a lot I could, that's coming to me and we all could unpack here but we won't because we're going to stay laser light. Of course an alcoholic ought to be freed from his craving for liquor and this often requires a definite hospital procedure before psychological measures can be of maximum benefit. We're on page XXVIII in case you didn't follow. We, circle the word we, we want to emphasize this, put a little arrow on the line to the left margin, right? Doctors. Okay. Doctors. Stamp of approval. We, doctors. We believe and so suggested a few years ago, if you grab your yellow highlighter now, important that that that the action of alcohol on these chronic alcoholics is a manifestation of an allergy that the phenomena of continue in yellow that the phenomenon of craving is limited to this class and never occurs in the temperate drinker these allergic types can never safely use alcohol in any form at all and the highlight there from that the reaction of alcohol to any form it off please yellow highlighter or whatever highlighter you're assigned as important there okay let's go back to the yellow highlight uh the second line there the second full line that we highlighted the word allergy circle it please we want to make it stand out even more manifestation of an allergy allergy circled it circle phenomena of craving circle phenomena of craving okay okay there's a little bit of writing here okay so what i'd like you to do please turn the big book counterclockwise sorry clockwise clockwise so the left margin is facing you again left margin is facing you okay i'm gonna share something here because for this one i want to share it to make it more uh easy to understand so this is how i've done it just so you see okay and i'm going to read it see counterclockwise on the left margin is facing you top left as you can go even more to the left there write the word allergy underline it in yellow colon and i am going to read it for you because i know my hand i just wanted you to see the picture of how i go about like the landscape of it allergy okay we're going to define allergy for the newcomer abnormal reaction to alcohol period abnormal reaction to period when i drink comma i lose control of how much i drink period okay so when i drink karma i lose control of how much i drink abnormal reaction to alcohol an allergy to anything is just that but i my body reacts from the introduction of something outside some foreign substance to me it reacts differently than most of the population out there i have an allergy to it. What's the allergy? I lose control of how much I drink when I drink. So below the word allergy that you highlight in yellow, write the word craving. Write the word allergy, write the work craving highlighted in yellow. So we're still on the left margin, right? Write the way craving highlighting yellow colon after we're going to define craving. This craving only occurs This craving only occurs when I have a drink in my system, not when I'm sober. That's a big point for somebody who doesn't know who's new. this craving only occurs when I have a drink in my system comma not when I'm sober okay so sort of we alluded to that last week a little bit right so the craving in everyday language that someone who's new or in and out may not have gotten that the word craving that we use it always refers to whatever I'm craving for I don't have it in me yet pizza drinks whatever right um i'm craving it and then i i take it i eat it i drink it and it satiates it's it satisfies the craving that's not what the big book talks about that's not what they're talking about when they say powerless or alcohol physical allergy this craving only occurs when i take the drink and then it intensifies just imagine if if i'm starving and i go have a hamburger and I eat the hamburger and the craving intensifies for more hamburger, that's what it is. It's mind boggling, right? So we just, it's important to define that for the new person. I found that powerful right after that, what it ist, what this craving is, okay? Perfect. Let's go back to the big one. So after the highlight there, now we're going to take the pen, we're gonna turn statements into questions. Please answer it for yourself. A yes, just put a why right next to the question and once having formed a habit found they cannot break it question mark did that happen to me i formed the habit i just couldn't break it once having lost their self-confidence questionable and a little y right next of the question did you lose my self- confidence their reliance upon things human question one did i lose my self-confidence that I couldn't rely on anything human to keep me sober or live life or keep me sober. Their problems piled up on them and became astonishingly difficult to solve. Question. Do I relate to that? Do you relate to, that Mr. Newcomer? Astonishingly difficult to solve? Okay, beautiful. Grab the yellow highlighter please. This next short paragraph is in yellow. Important. Fraughty emotional appeals seldom suffices. The message which can interest and hold these alcoholic people must have depth and weight. In nearly all cases, their ideals must be grounded in a power greater than themselves if they are to recreate their lives." Important. Fraughty emotional appeals, seldom suffices. Put a question mark after suffices, please. So from that paragraph, fraughty emotional appeals. What we're going to do from the paragraph, put a little arrow to the right margin and then turn the book counterclockwise so the right margin is facing you. And we're just going to write some words and commas and divide it by commas, okay? Examples of frothy emotional appeal, okay. Please write the word sympathy, comma. Support, comma, comma-y. threats, comma, dot dot dot. That means we could increase that list, right? Sympathy, support, threats, and then below that line or somewhere there please write are not enough. Are not enough are not enough okay going back to the big book go back and make the big books straight again so from the emotional pure self and suffice this question mark have you ever had have you never had people sympathize with you empathize with you try to encourage you ali i know you could do it i love you baby here i'm gonna pay for your university let's go back just try to finish that degree you're fired i'm gonna leave you you're gonna die stop doing this to yourself have people try to do frothy emotional appeals see frothy means just means bubbly over the top right have they ever tried to do that has that worked for you right so i just seldom suffices so we're not saying that that's bad or the family members that were doing that the friends that were wrong of course no no not at all it just it seldom was sufficient for me to stay stopped or for me when I start to take that first drink to be able to control it was not sufficient okay now in that same yellow highlight paragraph the third line down it says depth and weight please circle depth and weight please circle depth and weight in pen we want to make a standout one okay now as you if you are moved to you know use this method or whatever as you go through the big world you'll see your most beautiful thing happen despair will invoke within you whatever needs to be said at that time right so it's just the most beautiful things that happen right depth and way i believe the reason this i may not go in depth with a new person on this see the reason this book this writing is on a page couple of inches thick of a book becomes thousands of kilometers deep is because it has depth and weight because one alcoholic armed with facts about himself with no agenda to change anybody with the sincere desire to this over himself and help someone else pours their experience on the page of this book and then if that person's ready and one of us they get to line up their own experience against this writing and then it becomes that depth and weight otherwise it doesn't have that family it doesn' t mean it doesn''t have that feeling it's so beautiful the way it works eh that's the way that's a way so is this the doctor still writing it is the doctor story yes okay so the darkness yes here so depth and weight and in nearly all cases their ideals must be grounded in a power grid themselves if they're going to recreate we're going gonna recreate our lives mr newcomer you're gonna recreate your life you know we're not gonna you're not going to become a better looking caterpillar from this in this program what's happened to me is that i've gone to a cocoon i've emerged as something transformational just transformed a cocoon that a caterpillar turns into a butterfly i'm not going to become a better looking caterpillar okay better version of me it just transformed transformed um we create their lives okay let's go back to the big book if any feel that as psychiatrists directing a hospital for alcoholics we appear somewhat sentimental let them stand with us a while on the firing line see the tragedy see this the despairing wives the little children let the solving of these problems become a part of their daily work and even of their sleeping moments and the most cynical will not wonder that we have accepted and encouraged this movement if you please grab the yellow highlight important we feel after many years experience that we have found nothing nothing please also circle the word nothing with pen we want to make really make it stand up nothing continuing yellow which has contributed more to their rehabilitation of these men than the altruistic movement now growing up among them the doctor says this a scientist says this stamp of approval stamp of approvals men and women drink essentially because they like the effect produced by alcohol question mark and just the yes is right next to the question once please the sensation is so elusive that while they admit it is injurious man is killing me like i wasn't i'm not the smartest person i'm also not the dullest pencil in the box i'm not the sharpest but not the tallest right so i figured out after years that when i pick up a drink it seems to cause some destruction so i admit it as injurious to me the sensation is so elusive while they admit is injurious they cannot after a time differentiate the truth from the false question mark do you relate to that okay now we can look at this on many depths right true from the falls as unlikely you know the disease of perception what goes on my brain makes a meaning or something different but for the newcomer i try to stay to the drink on this one the true from the false the truth that the drink has destroyed my life this drink will eventually very highly likely lead to destruction from the first that'll be different this time after i take a couple that i can take a cup of just a controller okay to them their alcoholic life seems the only normal one question was that me they are restless irritable and discontented question mark for the yes right next to the question is if you grab the yellow highlighter now please highlight in yellow or the important statement highlight restless irritables and disconsented restless irritability scintillator please do you remember being like that right so from that yellow was it that you know it's an irritable and discontented from the yellow highlight please put a little line in an arrow to the bottom margin please write the following spiritual malady karma aka the acronym for otherwise known as aka untreated alcoholism untreated alcoholic spiritual malady comma aka untreatable so in this big book i may be wrong so please forgive me, but maybe the forwards, but like I believe from in the doctor's opinion anyways, this is the first time they start to introduce, the doctor starts to introduce me, the doctor does, to the spiritual malady. Right? I don't need to go to depth with what it is, spiritual malade with a newcomer. I'm still focusing the newcomer on the physical allergy, right? Restless, cerebral discontented. Question mark. So for the next, this paragraph and this set of series of question marks as we're doing it please put your hand up if you want to laser like share now next round of sharing okay they are restless here about discontented question mark check this out unless they can again experience the sense of ease and comfort please circle the word sense put an arrow to the top margin please write fake fake the drink gave me a sense the illusion of peace and comfort the sense of ease and comfort which comes at once by taking a few drinks question mark after drinks okay you're going to put all the yeses either to the right margin next to the question so you're gonna ask yourself now okay when i took a few dreams did it give me a fifth what do i remember being restless edible discontented i take a few drinks and gave me a sense of ease and comfort right drinks which they see others taking with impunity question mark did i see others around me drinking without punishment without repercussion impunity after they have succumbed to the desire again question mark was there a period of time where i just didn't want to drink i didn't want to drink and then finally i succumbed to the desire i picked up a drink as so many do and the phenomena of craving develops question mark did that craving develop when i took a drink and i wanted more and more and they passed through a well-known in stages so the well-know stages of a spree question mark did i go on a spreek did i come on a run emerging remorseful question mark man I'm never going to do this again how the hell like how could that I spend the rent money again how can I leave my baby with that person with the firm resolution not to drink again question mark when I came out of that spree with a firm resolution that I have a firm resolution I'm not going to do this again this is repeated over and over, question mark. Do I remember? Do I relate to that? Over and over? Okay. Grab the yellow highlighter. And unless this person can experience an entire psychic change, there is very little hope of his recovery. And unless this person can experience an entire psychic change there's very little hope of his recovery okay please circle with pen entire psychic change please put a line down in just the space right before right below that circle please write across spiritual awakening entire psychic changes another way to say the spiritual awakening spiritually came. Okay, perfect. Now, in the previous question marks and last paragraph, in this paragraph, the question marks, laser light please. You can pick one or two of them or all of them but please be laser light 30 seconds or so from your experience and how you relate to that. Nancy, come on up please. hi everybody i'm nancy and i'm an alcoholic this paragraph totally describes my state of mind in my sense of reality in my active alcoholism uh knowing that the alcohol was killing me and vowing not to do it again and doing it again over and over and over i feel that same horrible feeling just reading this right now thank you thank you nancy maria come on up please hi maria alcoholic um at the bottom of um the page where it says um they cannot after a time differentiate the true from the false to them their alcoholic life seemed the only normal one i remember in the depths of my bottom when i was really drinking around the clock looking out the window and not knowing if this fun was coming up or coming going down whether the cars were coming home from work or leaving from work insanity uh thanks for letting me share thank you maria dina come on up please um i think i'm gonna have to pass thank you okay thank you dina penny come on please morning everyone uh laser like folded focus henny alcoholic my experience after three and a half years sober five years of reading the big book i picked up a drink sitting across the table from me upon the occasion of going out to dinner i took one sip within two months or so i don't even know how long. I could not resist the draw of alcohol, and I made up my mind over and over and over to not do this anymore. My best effort was anywhere between two hours to two weeks, and I didn't get sober for the rest of the year. This was before Easter. I did not get sober for a full-blown alcoholic. Thanks. Thank you, Henny. Lana, come on up, please. Hi, Lana, alcoholic. For me, it's the phenomenon of craving that really strikes a chord. I had a special event and I told myself I can have two drinks in one shot so that I don't embarrass myself. And I stuck to that, but I spent the entire event obsessing over how quickly or how slowly I was drinking these drinks and if and when I was allowed to maybe sneak one more. and when we finally left the event we went to another bar so that i could drink until i was done which ended up not making the entire night but that's what really strikes support thanks for letting me share thank you lana frank come on up brother please yeah thanks you know for me my experience has been a desire is just a wish i can think about i want to go out but it's a blizzard. It's really bad weather. I won't go, right? Sober, I can make that decision. But once I've had a drink or alcohol in any form, we say, right, that decision is gone. It doesn't matter what the weather is. The craving is so much stronger than the desire that I'm going to walk across broken glass to get the second, third and the fourth drink. But I can do, I could make a decision that it's too dangerous to get the first drink sometimes thank you brother carmen come on up please i'm an alcoholic that sense of ease and comfort when i get off of work and i come home and i'm just gonna take a take a drink and relax and watch dr phil and before i know it it's quarter to ten i've taken out meat bought it out it's sitting on the counter i haven't even cooked it and i have to throw it away again again again with that ass thanks thank you so much carmen okay that's enough for this sharing right now we're gonna jump back in we only got about 20 minutes or so i want to make sure finish that session uh thank you everybody so uh here we go on the other hand as strange as this may seem to those who do not understand the doctor is still writing this once a psychic change has occurred the very same person please circle the very same person with pen and to that to the right of that circle just in between the two lines please write your name remember we're taking this making this personal to us right mr newcomer write your i put ali the very very same personality who seemed doomed question mark after doom did you feel do you feel like that sometimes had so many problems he despaired of ever solving them question mark do you relate to that Suddenly finds himself easily able to control his desire for alcohol, the only effort necessary being that required to follow a few simple rules. Please circle a few sample rules. And to the right of that circle, please write 12 steps. All the rules, all the actions we take in the 12 steps, right? Men have cried out to me in sincere and despairing appeal. doctor i cannot go on like this i have everything to live for i must stop but i cannot you must help me faced with this problem if a doctor is honest with himself he must sometimes feel his own inadequacy although he gives all that is in him is it often is not enough one feels that yellow highlighter very important right here something more than human powers needed to produce the essential psychic change just remember i keep reminding us say who's saying this to us right a scientist is saying this who just witnessed the miracles of what was happening something more than human powers needed to produce essential psychic changes in yellow no more though the aggregate the totality of recoveries resulting from psychiatric effort is considerable the doctor says we physicians must admit we have made little impression upon the problem as a whole Yellow highlighter, many types do not respond to the ordinary psychological approach. Many types do not respond to the psychological approach and that's how humble you have to be to admit that, to write that, to risk your career on that. I do not hold with those who believe that alcoholism is entirely a problem in mental control. i have had many men who had for example worked a period of months on some problem or business deal which was to be settled on a certain day favorably to them they took a drink that they are so prior to the date then in yellow important the phenomena of craving at once became paramount to all other interests in yellow the phenomenon of craving at once became paranormal to all of their interests the doctor writes this no more yellow so that the important appointment was not met question mark do you relate to that so notice there's a lot covered in doctor's opinion but notice the main focus of what the doctor wants to get across to us from his decades of experience is this allergy that happens to you when he says here i don't believe alcoholism is a problem mental control i believe how i read it how christine is not like it's not like i'm sober i could just i'm not gonna do it i'm gonna drink you know oh i'm sorry no no that's nobody's time he's talking about when you take a couple of drinks right when you took a couple drinks it's not mental control that's enough no more something happens the phenomenon of craving kicks in that's what he's talking about here okay if you grab the yellow highlighter now these men important yellow these men were not drinking to escape they were drinking to overcome a craving beyond their mental control these men we're not drinking into escape they were drinking to overcome the craving beyond their mental control to the right of control in that little space please write allergy which you've already defined earlier allergies talking about the allergy remember craving only happens in this context when i drink not before i drink we'll talk about that later on that's called the obsession of the mind there are many situations which arise out of the phenomena of craving which cause men to make the supreme sacrifice rather than to continue to fight question mark yes as to the left margin have you ever made that supreme sacrifice right mr newcomer you know some people may think i i usually share my suicide attempts with them right so just to a lot of us live it like supreme like to take my own life but it doesn't have to be this big book meets me where i am supreme sacrifice means sacrificing the relationship with my children sacrificing my means of livelihood putting food on the table supreme sacrifice whatever however the big book speaks to me right the classic oh here we go okay the classification of alcoholics seems most difficult and in much detail outside is outside the scope of this book the doctor says okay so there are of course so and there are one place other three i believe in the big book that in the first 164 pages that they try to describe different kinds of alcoholics one of them is here the doctor does this and he's very clear to us look this this we're not going to do an academic academic scientific literature based analysis here it's beyond the scope for this book but generally from my observations okay there are of course the psychopaths who are emotionally unstable we are all familiar with this type they are always going on the water wagon for keeps they are over remorseful and make many resolutions but never a decision question mark okay this one sometimes i have to unpack for the new person i'm not a psychopath i like that's okay to consider another uh the characteristics of this forget about the word psychopath like do you are you always trying going on are you always trying to quit but never able to stay quit are you over emotional make many resolutions but never from you're never able, to make the commitment that you stick to the commitment, that you make right because when I look at it that way yeah I am I've done that okay there is the type of man who is unwilling to admit that he cannot drink he plans various ways of drinking he changes the brand or environment question mark after environment have you ever done that i moved to dubai i moved through iran i moved cities i i stopped drinking hard stuff to beer back to wine okay there is the type who always believes that after being entirely free from alcohol for a period of time he can take a drink without danger question mark have you ever been that guy during your drinking career i have there is the manic depressive type who is perhaps the least understood by his friends and about whom a whole chapter could be in question mark have you never been like that something goes your way life is beautiful some small thing doesn't go your way man i want to kill myself life is horrible i have i think the person right okay then there are types entirely normal in every respect accepting the effect alcohol has upon them they are often able intelligent friendly people question mark has during your drinking career have you ever been that i've been sometimes i've in that guy big promise able intelligent uh friendly except for the effect when i drink alcoholism okay so if I'm honest with myself I can find myself to various degrees in these descriptions of the alcoholic that the doctor said the various degrees at different points in time but look what they say now if you grab the yellow highlighter important all these and many others have one symptom in common they cannot start drinking without developing the phenomena of craving this phenomena as we have suggested may be the manifestation of an allergy which differentiates these people and sets them apart as a distinct entity all that in yellow up to entity okay so don't get so i'm maybe on this guy maybe i'm not maybe i probably okay do you relate to somewhat to this but don't even worry about that too much because no matter where you are see they have one thing in common whether you're the manic depressive or the person that you think is a psychopath or not doesn't matter the one thing in common that we want to relate to do you relate to this that when you take the drink more times than not the drink starts taking you that's huge no more yellow it has been it has never been by any treatment with which we are familiar permanently eradicated the only relief we have to suggest is entire abstinence This immediately precipitates us into a seething cauldron of debate, like a boiling pot or kettle of debate. Much has been written pro and con, but among physicians the general opinion seems to be that most are chronic alcoholics are doing it. In the bottom margin, we're going to once again ask the new person this question, see if they can relate. Okay, so the bottom margin. We're going to write these right small it's going to be 2 or 3 lines, but big enough. So you can read. Have I identified my allergy to alcohol? Have I identify my allergy alcohol? As a craving for more alcohol karma. once i start to drink question mark once i started to drink question mark have i identified my allergy to alcohol as a craving for more alcohol once i start the drink question mark you put a bs over there okay how i identified my thank you kristen for writing in chat my allergy to alcohol as a craving for more alcohol comma once i started to drink okay so now the first session we did just three pages and there's a solution that's all right just for that and then circle and triangle contract and this is the only chapter we're going to cover as an entirety in the step one chapters Because it's so powerful, the doctor's opinion. At this stage, if I'm with a new person, they've had those first three chapters in that session. They've had the doctor'S opinion in this session. And if they say a resounding no to this, I close this book, I shake their hand, I am very kind and friendly. and what I say to them is look this program will only works for people that can relate to this but you know what you and I are going to do let's continue to go to meetings together and continue to examine your relationship with alcohol maybe something will come out to you maybe you can start to relate to This I never want to close the door on someone like that I don't want to do that because sometimes this disease has me like blinded so much that it It won't allow me to see what's so clearly outlined in my own experience about this. So that's what I do at this stage. I don't move forward anymore. It's not worth it. It's just a waste of time. But I stay friendly, I stay kind, and I continue to hold their hand. So perfect. So now let's go to the doctor says, John was done. We're going to finish laser leg. And then, by the way, so again, my intention is always to have a section for some time for Q&A and sharing. It just seems to be it hasn't happened properly today. So I'm going to stay. I can stay for 45 minutes after for anyone that's willing to stay if you can't. No problem. You guys leave right after 1130. No problem, okay? And my team, the team, The Beautiful Team, please, if you guys need to leave, leave. You guys don't stay. I'll stay, okay. So the doctor writes, what is the solution? Highlighting yellow. What is the resolution? Grab a pen and a line and an arrow to the top margin, right? 12 steps. I want to continue to make it very clear to the newcomer. It's at all steps. What is the solution? Right? Perhaps I can best answer this by believing 1 of my experiences about 1 year prior to this experience and then was brought in to be treated for chronic alcoholism. He had partially recovered from a gastric hemorrhage like that's a bleeding stomach. and seemed to be a case of pathological mental deterioration, his mind was gone. He had lost everything worthwhile in life and was only living what might save the drink. He frankly admitted and believed that for him there was no hope. Following the elimination of alcohol there was found to be no permanent brain injury. That where there is error, I may bring truth. That whether it's doubt, I make bring faith. That where there's despair, I made bring hope that where there are shadows, I may Bring light that where there is sadness, I may bring joy. Lord grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted, to understand them to be understood, to love them to be loved for it is by self-forgetting that one finds it is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life. Amen. Thank you, Wally. Amen. Beautiful.
